This month we have been chatting to Marie d'Hoffschmidt, Co-founder of Meillart.
Meillart was born from a desire to transmit beauty and bring it back to the heart of our daily lives. I have been in the decorating industry for almost 10 years now and these years of experience have above all opened my eyes to a completely crazy opportunity in a booming market: 1. you have on the one hand craftsmen, designers and manufacturers who create exceptional products but which are not easy to find 2. on the other hand customers: looking for unique, exclusive products with an extra soul (very hard to find). These are often customers who also want to consume less but better, so who are looking for more transparency as to the origin and history behind each product.
That's why with Alfred, my brother, we decided to immerse ourselves in this wonderful adventure, by creating a platform dedicated to exceptional objects and furniture.
What's great about working as a family is that there are no taboos. It sure was a novelty to learn to work together as "colleagues" in addition to brothers and sisters. But we come from a family where the value of hard work is paramount. We grew up with the idea in mind of valuing everyone's work, of recognizing beauty where we expect it or seek it the least. These values motivate us on a daily basis in our work alongside our partners and with our team.
Meillart is above all a story of encounters. We meet our partners through introductions, fairs, trips... Our 5 senses are called upon when we choose to work with a partner craftsman: listening by immersing in their stories and sight for example: by admiring the work of their hand, their know-how transmitted for generations.
We also want to create long-term relationships with our partners: when they join us, it's really the beginning of a "new friendship", a new relationship, destined to last over time.
Finding THE unique piece for your interior or creating a harmonious interior that speaks for itself is a real job. Several paths are possible to find the pieces that suit us, but I think the starting point is really to ask ourselves what is the message that we want to convey through our interior: a message about who we are, what what we believe in, an appetite for a certain area…
Then it's to immerse ourselves in history and the interiors that we are offered. I take the example of Meillart: we will be able to direct a customer to a product that looks like him by allowing him to immerse himself in the stories of our partners so that he can grasp all the beauty of a gesture and the years of experience. who hide behind. In the same way, we can support a client who does not necessarily have ideas with inspirational photos and little by little we will help him build his interior project from A to Z.
A collection that I love was created in collaboration with the architect and decorator Victoria-Maria Geyer - VERTIGE - which has just launched and is the result of more than a year of reflection and production. I love this collaboration because it speaks to me on a personal level: I love entertaining people more than anything, setting magnificent tables for exceptional guests... and this line of tableware which includes: plates, glasses, tablecloths, napkins and placemats has been on my wish list since the beginning of its design… I can already see myself organizing a banquet dinner this summer around the 5 wonderful worlds that we launched with Victoria-Maria.
Maybe like any multi-passionate person: find a balance. Both between a hectic life at work but also from a family point of view: for me the family remains at the centre of all my thoughts: taking the time to see my son on weekday evenings, spending quality time with my husband on the weekends … that is essential to me and moreover gives me a lot of strength for work.
I am a lover of the countryside: I slip away from Paris whenever I can to breathe the fresh country air, under the trees with as many animals as possible around me.
The waterfall necklace: a pretty feminine touch that is both discreet and elegant... everything we love.
Meillart has plenty of projects. Collaborations of course and this year 2023 will be rich in creative and exclusive projects for Meillart, development in the UK and US and an expansion of the team for ever more new ideas.
