For International Women’s Day and the month of March, we’ve partnered with the charity CAMFED to support their campaign to revolutionise education for young women in sub-Saharan Africa.

Meet CAMFED

CAMFED is a non-profit organisation that’s revolutionising how girls’ education is delivered in parts of sub-Saharan Africa. Their campaign works to ensure that some of the most excluded young women and girls are able to go to school, succeed, lead and grow up into becoming independent, influential women.

We really wanted to support this amazing charity for International Women’s Day and throughout the month of March, since CAMFED’s movement multiplies the number of girls in school, and accelerates their transition to livelihoods and leadership. And as a female-led brand, we’ve seen first hand how powerful it can be when women are given the chance to lead.

The Importance of Education

Through the CAMFED Association, women are leading action on the big challenges their countries face – from child marriage, and girls’ exclusion from education, to climate change. This unique pan-African network of lawyers, doctors, educators, and entrepreneurs now numbers more than 157,000 and is growing exponentially as more girls complete school and join them.

CAMFED has launched a campaign to highlight the important role that girls’ education can play in solving the climate crisis. They’ve supported more than 4.1 million children to go to school across Ghana, Malawi, Tanzania, Zambia, and Zimbabwe, and more than 7 million students have benefited from an improved educational environment.

Education and Climate Change

Climate change is having a devastating effect on communities across sub-Saharan Africa, and research has shown that “empowering girls and women through a combination of education and family planning is the number one thing the world can do to address climate change.”

Ensuring that girls have access to quality education arms them with knowledge and guidance, and can empower them to be more financially independent and likely to invest in themselves and the future education of their own children, which in turn, can have a lasting effect on the planet.

Doing our bit

Tackling gender inequity unlocks the power of women and girls and increases their access to education, resources, and opportunity to embark on a brighter future, which is something that is deeply important to us at Kimai. It means a lot to be able to partner with such a brilliant charity such as CAMFED. We believe in what they are doing and putting womens’ education at the forefront of the inequality problem, we think, will be the solution.

For the month of March, we’re donating 20% of profits from every sale of our Memory bracelet to CAMFED. We chose our Memory bracelet for this special partnership, because it’s one of our favorite pieces for you to personalise.
