We love a proposal story so this month we sat down with one of our engagement ring customers Lara to discuss her proposal story...
How long have you and your partner been together and how did you meet?
We have been together for almost 5 years now. We were introduced by our best friends right after their engagement party and were asked to meet as they wanted us to walk down the aisle together at their wedding. We were both living in NY at that time and just three months after we started dating, we decided to leave the US and move to Paris.
When did the proposal happen (and as romantics, we'd love to know how)?
We got engaged in August 2021 on our way from Paris to Ibiza with a first stop in Aix-en-Provence and a second in the Spanish mountains. We went for a hike one morning and as we stopped to enjoy the view of a beautiful cliff, he went down on one knee and said: “Do you want to be my wife?” I knew this was coming but I was still very surprised and so impressed by the stunning ring! I had prepared a small speech as a response to his proposal, and we spent more time just looking at the view, enjoying this special moment together before announcing the news to our family and friends.
How did you hear about Kimai?
We heard about Kimai from family and friends back in Brussels. We had heard about lab-grown diamonds and had already purchased smaller jewelries from the brand. We loved that it was female founded and their beautiful designs.
What inspired you to choose this bespoke style?
The style was a big question when I started the process but after trying a few different shapes, the cushion looked the best on me. The yellow diamond set with white diamonds made the color stand out.
Why did you choose this beautiful yellow lab grown diamond for your forever ring?
I wanted something special, a ring that I would never get tired to look at. I typically like to stand out and be different and I wanted the ring to resemble me and be different than others both in its color and the way it has been manufactured.
Did your partner have any input with the design?
I gave Max a brief idea of what I liked and that I wanted to do it Kimai. I wanted him to be part of it as much as it is part of me, so he decided on the final design with the help of the Kimai team. He also added our initials inside the ring to personalize it even more.
When & where was the wedding?
We got married one year later in Ibiza at my family home. It was always a dream to get married in the house where I spent my summers growing up and where I always imagined my fairytale wedding. Our dream came through and we had the most beautiful wedding ceremony and party, surrounded by our dear friends and families.
Since our engagement we have shared the word about Kimai and have already convinced one friend who got engaged recently! We look forward to enjoy the beautiful jewelry and pass it on to our children one day.
